Event Details

A discussion event being run by the Democratic Society, with the support of the Carnegie UK Trust, entitled "Getting the Media Democracy Needs".

The Leveson Inquiry has focused attention on the behaviour of the press in the recent past, but away from celebrity witnesses and borrowed horses, the media and democratic landscapes are both changing. What media, and what media regulation, will be needed by the next generation of public services, and the next generation of citizens?

On 25 April, the Democratic Society is bringing together a group of journalists, policy thinkers and democracy activists for an informal afternoon discussion on that topic, in advance of their publication of a set of essays by journalists, public policy thinkers, and democracy activists in May. A selection of draft pieces are being published on Demsoc's website (http://www.demsoc.org) over the next few weeks, to act as a starting point for discussion.
